These items are in a museum collection in Tatamagouche NS. Note that they seem , maybe, to been different hands. Any ideas?

I think you have a pair of timber Race Knives, also called timber marking knives.

I believe frisco is correct in his response, see my post to see my folder style timber race knife. I'll be on the lookout for these!

Hello Rustfarm. I must have missed your past post, but just looked it up, and see you did show a variation of one of these race knives already. Does yours have any trademark indications on it? In my research I see that "R. Timmons and Son's" was an early maker of allot of these race knives, (if you did not already know that). I found a Great article on the history, and the use of these tools, but hate to post it here. as I'm NOT happy with the lack of response from this new one post wonder, "pauljbrink". I will get it to you at a later date! Take Care

One post wonder here.... No marks as these appear to be hand forged. Nice welcoming site for newcomers.... Goodbye
