We bought this sculpture 16 years ago. We call her Irene; because that was the name we had chosen if one of our children was a girl. But you know in our family this velvet always small is the only girl, there are only boys. She is wonderful; she has a sort of resignation or bored attitude trying to read the vowels and the one digit numbers. I learn to read before going to school thanks to the younger sister of my mother and She reminds me of her. Now we leave so apart that it hurts me. So the emotional value I give to this sculpture makes me not enough impartial to give an opinion of its real value. I loves marbles, they are of different colors and textures: a white glossy one, the bonnet seems of rosso di Verona but it is more orange, and the robe is probably of granite, it is spotted in white, browns and ruby, it is not so glossy and there are some porosity between the colors. I am not an expert at all in this theme. I say because the column on what it stands is very green but I will post it not now. The lace of the bonnet and the book of the base are tinted marble in gold and red. I do not understand the signature (last picture) but I seems like G. Martori. Enjoy this little treasure.
