These two views are of the same ashtray, which promote Piper Airplanes. It is made of Aluminum, presumably to reduce weight in planes (back in the days when smoking in planes was allowed, but these Pipers are generally private planes so who knows if the anti smoking rules apply to them).
This is a vintage item, probably from Piper's original facility which was in Williamsport, PA. This facility was closed and Piper is now based in Florida.
In addition to making great aircraft in Williamsport, many different engines were developed there, including the famous Lycoming engine. As a matter of home town pride, this engine was named after Lycoming County, PA, which is where Williamsport is located.
Nice !
Cool :-)
