Does anyone have any information on this childs rocker? Bought at a garage sale and would be interested in knowing a little about it. Looks like it has been refinished, has a little green paint on it, nails may have been replaced by screws on the bottoms.

You will never, not ever see a rocking chair with nails or screws driven up through the skids. Can you use a little common sense and imagine the damage to the floor from nails or screws that back out as you rock? I also question why you say this is a child's rocker. I believe if you measure the seat and forget the height you will find it wasn't built for a child. Being short doesn't make it a chair for a child. I would venture to say it is a reproduction of a Shaker fireplace rocker. They were built intentionally short for several reasons.

That is interesting. I just thought is was a child's since it is short. Thanks for the information.

To get you started you should research fireplace chairs or nursing chairs. This chair should put the person sitting in it at a height just above hearth level. Women breast fed their children where it was warm for the baby. They also sewed quilts etc. by the light of the fire.

Thank you fhrjr2. I found a picture of the exact chair on EBay. Stated it is a nursing chair shaker style, dated to 1800-1899. Nice to know what it is and approx. age.
