A large primitive bowl. I am not sure where it is from. It looks old. I am wondering if anybody has seen one before. I found it at a thrift store.

It's probably an art class project, made by using the inside of a larger bowl as a form or mold. It's a standard technique often taught in beginning pottery classes, because it ends up with a bowl that, from the outside at least, is nicely rounded and can have an interesting look. But the uneven rim finish, the way the inside is bumpy and not smoothed out, and the way the glaze has been applied...all point to it being the work of a beginning potter. So no, not old.
Thanks CanyonRoad. It is great to get info. I was also told it looked African. I plan on using it as a bird bath in my garden.
I saw an amazing video about a dish someone bought for three bucks at a garage sale which turned out to be ancient Japanese pottery worth $3M!

Thanks Katherinescollections. That was such a great story. Thanks for sharing. I love to hunt for old primitive stuff. I never pay much and it is just plain fun.
