This pretty little vase just does not compare with the beautiful items posted here but I'd still like to identify maker/time frame if possible. The glass is filled with tiny air bubbles. The pontil is rough. Stands just under 8" tall and is 2.25"cross the top. Thanks for your input!
Lovely blue vase.
I think this is either quite recent Spanish glass, maybe Mexican or Chinese.
That's about as close as I can get but someone else is sure to be closer than that!
Thank you for your response racer4four! You know, someone else also said perhaps Spanish (how in the world can you folks devine that????...color, shape, design aesthetic???) and possibly made from recycled glass (which I thought was quite interesting). I would like to be able to identify it a little more closely. I can tell the difference between old glass and new but mainly in the area of American pattern glass. A piece like this just stumps me. Thanks again!
Much Spanish glass these days (and Mexican too) is made from recycled glass - good on them.
If this is Spanish it was probably made in the 90s and 2000s - the Spanish glass industry seemed to really flood the market then for designer shops and home stores. The Chinese have really stepped over them now.
The reasons we swing toward Spanish are:
1. The colour - that blue
2. The shape - the bulb bottom into a longish neck with a flared rim
3. The coil - the Spanish did that a bit
4. The pontil - sometimes it was left rough like this, sometimes it was flame smoothed. The dish in the base is a factor too.
I may be totally wrong with my ID - enjoy your vase anyway!!
