Now we have "The Mentalist" on TV, harking back to earlier mentalists ,Kreskin and Dunninger popular here and it in Britain.
Allegedly, Dunninger performed his most amazing "trick", a term he revolted against, during World War Two in a private performance for Winston Churchill. Dunninger gave Churchill an ordinary pack of cards, face down. Dunninger instructed Churchill to sort the cards into two piles -- one black, one red -- *without* turning them over: by concentrating on each face-down card, one at a time, trying to guess its colour and then placing it in either the red or the black pile. When Churchill was finished, Dunninger turned over the cards: astoundingly, one pile contained all 26 red cards, the other all 26 black cards! Allegedly, Dunninger used his powers of precognition to foresee which cards Churchill would place in which stack, and he pre-arranged the pack accordingly. Well, that was his official explanationDunnenger" who probably had THIS BOOK in his huge librarie about "mentalism".
Kreskin always became defensive when challenged, and had a 1940s radio show where he read people minds from radio call ins. We never missed his show and my dad insisted I wear a metal hat with rabbit ears antennea taped to it...Then we would go outside and he would send me words, etc. I used to have a photo of me in the yard with the hat on. Yes, my dad was totally serious. Funny but as we practised, I did seem to be hitting in more than averages!! The mind game went on for decades.
This book must have all the answers (Hee Hee) on how to mind read drom vibrations or something. I think the book is valuable!! Wonderful item there!
Great story postcard!
I thought AGH must have read this already coz he knows so much!
That's funny. Do you ever get the sensation you know something--and it happens? I do and I guess I can attribute that to "Bobby, and His Mind Reading Hat" Huh?
I do seem to have had a sort of "off the wall" family. And I didn't fall to far from the family tree. Thanks for enjoying some of the memorable family moments.
Now AGH must have a "hat" even greater than mine!
This is a wonderful, fun group. I am SOOOO glad I found you!!!!!
Interesting book Agh, nice looking too. & funny story PostcardCollector, what an 'off the wall' upbringing you must have had, I bet you have some fun stories to tell. My brother and I used to try to 'read' each other's minds. Sometimes it would feel it was working but I think it was only chance..I Wish it had worked!
Kep trying.... I think if you have some ability--it will increase.--and the stories I have from being raied in my particlular fam, still make me laugh every day. Mostly from my Irish grandmother who went out of her way to accomplish what she needed to do like .......being late for work in the 1930's and going outside and hitch-hiked, thumb out, in the street, on a full GARBAGE TRUCK!! That is just the beginning!! Ha Ha. What a gal!
OOOps lotta mistakes up there. I am blind in one eye and just rolled outta bed--no coffee here so I am lagging. Sorry about errors above ; I pick up the pace as the day goes on.
