    Hi,
I own a Mann Edge Tool Company hatchet and would like to know the approximate age. It is a smaller sized (belt ax?) Can anyone determine the age by the stamping?

    Thanks!

Does it say "Lizzy " anywhere on it ?

No, it does not. The only markings are the single line (Mann Tool Company) that shows in the picture. I'm thinking that it might be an early model, but I'm only guessing.

You left out the most important word on the axe head. I believe it says Mann Edge Tool Co. There are a dozen Mann tool companies that make axes but there was only one Mann Edge Tool Co. The word "Edge" can make a difference of major $. Researching their trademark/logo/maker marks would be of great help to you. Most companies changed their marks every few years or even used different marks on different series of their product.

Yes, you are correct...Mann Edge Tool Co.
      Thanks!

You will also find info listed as Mann Dynasty or Mann Axe Making Dynasty. There was a book written about them but I am not sure if it is available online. Their trademarks are shown on some of the axe sites along with Collins and Plumb. You just need to sort out what applies to you. Normally you will find a maker specific forum on the axe collector's sites. Many are free to look at and read and some you can join for free you just need to register, like this site.

PS: I believe the handle on your axe has been cut down. Also getting a weight will help you. You need a weight on the head but weighing it as it is then take the next lower pound should work to get you in the ball park.

Thanks for the suggestion. I removed the head and it weighs in at 21 oz.

At 21 oz. that was one of their camping hatchets.
