What is it? I recline when you pull up on the round-headed stud underneath my arms.

I purchased this antique recliner chair for $150 back in 1978 in Washington State. I saw it in an upholstery shop window and after inquiring about it, I was told the elderly owner never returned to pick it up after it was reupholstered. It matched my beautiful rust carpet in my new house (okay, so rust was "in" during the 70s!). Pull up on the round-headed stud under each arm...and the arms slide to release the back to the reclined position, as pictured. The back is also upholstered. We've enjoyed our "throne chair" over the years, but I need to change upholstery to match bedroom grays/lavenders and to match the footstool I found. Before doing so, I would like to understand its origins or history. I know nothing about antique chairs. The wood (Mahogany?) is dark and quite old, but is in good condition. There might be upholstery tack marks under the 1970s upholstery. Please help me understand from what era and location this originated. Thank you for any hints you might offer!

I have a very similar chair and likewise trying to find out exactly what it is. I was told it had been in Belgium but I don't know if that was it's country of origin. Mine looks like it had been re- upholstered probably in the 1970's/ 80's but I can see evidence of previous upholstery nail marks so much older than that.

I have not yet removed the 1970s upholstery, but I believe there are nail marks underneath, as well. Thanks for my first "hint" about this recliner/tilt-back chair.
