For any member of an Railroad association (of which there are a few ) it's fellows are issued a medal/medallion while on the particular rail line they are working.
In case of an accident or mishap were the person is unable to speak, this medal has a number that corresponds to his identity and for t re ament of injuries.
On one side is the name of the particular association he belongs to and the other side has the I D number and further instructions.
I found this item at a local swap meet put it on a chain with T-bar and dog clip.
Railroad memorabilia not often seen.
Neat piece of railroad history.
