Challenge. First two photos: a watercolor signed Frederick Russell Bates, sold recently on Etsy. Second two photos: an oil painting I own ... no signature ... painting may have been cut down at some point in history ... in large penciled letters on reverse canvas "F R Bates, 1891, Boston Mass". CHALLENGE QUESTION: Comparing the two paintings (style, composition, strokes etc) do you think that these two paintings were done by the same artist? Weigh in your thoughts! Thanks!

Thanks for your comment, Alan. I've read that there are F R Bates paintings at an Artillery Bldg in Boston; hope to take my painting there someday for comparison. Would be fun!

      Hi
      JoeyC
For sure that's a good ideal.
And of coarse never rush anything with painting or any artwork, i make a mistake my self years ago, i still think about that, many time still.

      What was your mistake, Alan?

Joey, I'm no expert but there are similarities between the two works of art.
