Another $1.00 and some change down the drain, lol~! These are also part of today's flea market lot. These earrings were tarnished and I believe the person selling thought they were brass. They are stamped .925, and after a cleaning I see that there looks to be a gold coating over the silver.
:-)
The style looks 1980s to me, but my jewellery knowledge amounts to 0.001.
Almost a deco look!
racer4four - that's what I thought, too. I've never seen earrings like these and was surprised to see gold when I cleaned them. I paid about $1.25 for them!
Oh these are absolutely fab, Efesgirl, I love them. I don't think that's lapis. though, more like turquoise, no? Looks like the big hair Devo era to me. Great score! :)
katherinescollections: I thought it might be turquoise, too. I looked at photos of turquoise and lapis, and see that lapis also comes in this shade of blue. Oh well, doesn't really matter. You're right, they definitely do look like Devo era earrings. I bought them together with an old German made gold double'/onyx man's ring. What makes this ring unique is what's written on the backside of the ring: "Protected Under Law", in German.
The mark looks to me more like 575, rather than 925. Wishful thinking on my part?
In Swansea, South Wales UK, we had a regular Market called Clydach Market and not was it a regular market it was a Boot sale too with outside sellers. The tendency of most booters is too fill their tables and then fill in front of the table with their stuff on the floor. On a Stall Holders table was a pair of very similar earings. Well I leant over, slipped on something floor grabbed the earings and dropped one! Chipping the pointed end and ruining them and I had to pay for them!
davyd286 - Oh yes indeed! It'd be nice if they were gold, but they are just gold gilt over silver. Still, I like them very much.
