This lamp was purchased through an auction in South Africa-by an 89 year old lady who Im assuming has passed on-My spouse purchased it for me, from her about 8 years ago and all contact was lost-
Description of the lamp:-
I think it dates back to the 1800's
its 95cm in height with glass chimney
lamp weighs over 3 and a half kilograms
the base of lamp is 1 and a half cm high-in thickness of cut glass
a smaller step sits above that base which is 1cm h in (thickness)
-above that is a sandwich followed by
-a honeycomb patterned vase shaped stem
another sandwich above the vase and in between the different designed/cut glass font-a burner above that, which a 13" long chimney sits upon-and lastly an etched cranberry ruffle shade is placed over the chimney.
May I request a detailed description of the item-dating back to when it was manufactured- where the item was manufactured-name of manufacturer-and value/estimated selling price.
Your time, effort, patience, and response to this request is highly appreciated.
Thank You.
ADDED INFO-MAPLE MESSENGERS PATENT LONDON-is printed on the knob of the burner.
Is there any information on the Thumb-wheel on the burner.....like Hink's or Duplex etc...?
Thank You for your response Loumanal-The Print says MAPLE-MESSENGERS PATENT LONDON.
I believe you have a Hinks Mapke Messengers 1800s oil lamp. Some of them are worth alot of money and kinda rare.
Beautiful lamp! RER
Thank You Robin 56 and Loumanal-much appreciated,
