This is a low rocking chair that came from my grandmother. I have no idea how old or the style. Does anyone out there have an ideas?
Does anyone know anything about this style chair? |

I'm not entirely sure, But it could be victorian. a lot ofVictorian chairs use abstract floral designs like this, but of course it could just as well be a newer chair with a similar style as that of the victorian chairs. I'm no expert on furniture. Does it have any markings at all that could indicate who created it? Its a really beautiful chair though, I really like the floral patterns and the engraved wood at the top.
I would say that is a Cochran chair. Does the seat fold up?
I was searching for info on a rocker that I purchased at a flea market to determine age and value...when I saw your picture, I couldn't believe it! I have the same rocker. I've stripped the fabric off and plan to refurbish it. Have you gotten any other info on it?
I have 2 exactly like this one. The information I found on them is, they are vintage tapestry sewing rocking chairs from 1900-1909. I have completely refubished one and am working on the other. I upholstered it in a red crushed fabric.
I have this same chair. I took pictures when I took the fabric off, I was surprised that there wasn't any support for the seat! I am ready to reupholster the chair but don't know where to start.
Any suggestions are appreciated.
What's a chair like this worth?
Looks like a folding rocker.
I don't see a lot of age to it and the carving doesn't look detailed From what I see, I'd call it Victorian STYLE.
Some additional photos may show age and that it was just re-upholstered/ refinished.
A photo of the underside and the folding joints would be helpful.

forgot a word-- folding "seat" rocker.

It is a Victorian style, but they did reproduce these in the 1980's. My mother purchased a couple of these identical rocking chairs in the late 1980's, new, from a department store where she lives.
Also, I believe the rose carving was the same. Had the needlepoint. Colors were pretty much the same. Can't remember exact design. But the wood frame I remember there were I think 2 seams on either side of the center area. And one seam did split apart. The chair is stored in my parents garage. As soon as I can get to their house I will pull it out and take a photo to verify all of this.
