These are 4x10 magnification Japanese binoculars. This type was mostly carried by non commissioned officers, for higher ranking officers had better quality glasses. The carrying case and strap are made of canvas to withstand the hot tropical climate. Leather would quickly rot in the Pacific climate. These were bought at an antique store. I was standing at a display case with another guy waiting for a sales staff to come and open the case. When she arrived I said he could go first, and he insisted that I go first. So I went first. Little did he know that I wanted to look at the same item. As soon as she picked them up he was slightly proturbed, and I knew if I set them down he would buy them, so I bought them at the very low price of $25.00. The guy was probably angry at himself for letting me go first.
