Our Uncle passes away and was in the military from World War 2 and beyond retiring as General USMC. These are 2 vases from his belongings. Can anyone tell if they are Japanese or Chinese? No ideaand are retty heavy as if brass. They have wooden stands with a stamp of paper that is torn off. I think he may have just bought them as souvenirs.

Looking for something else and ran across these. They are Japanese chokin. Chokin is an art of metal engraving dating to the 12th century. It was originally used to decorate the copper plates of samurai armor which were then laced together with silk or leather. The engravings were overlaid with pure gold, silver, and sometimes more copper. Your pair, based in bronze, is an outstanding example of the current art and likely date to before WWII. Cheers, Val
