I would agree this is a coring tool and could have just as easily been used to core an apple or remove pits from olives. I question it being vintage. I have seen the handle design on stainless steel cheese knives but they were made in Italy.

What I find more interesting is that it is just marked Sweden. That would tend to say it wasn't made for import into the USA. I have no idea where you are in the world but if this were a US import then the tariff act would require it to be marked "Made In Sweden" rather than just Sweden. You may need to research sites like eBay for Sweden to get information.

the handle is also carved out like the steel portion. Too big to be an olive pitter.

What does the handle have to do with using the tip of it? I would say it is multi purpose.

It's a "Swedish fid" definitely. They are used for splicing rope, working rigging, nets and I adapted one with a plunger & spring for injecting pepper corns for my homemade pastrami. maybe I should have gotten that patented before mentioning it.
