Hello everyone, I'm from Tasmania, Australia, and work for a worker-run, not-for-profit cooperative that salvages reusable items off the local landfill for re-sale and recycling. Recently we salvaged an extremely handsome Castrol sign which has proven very difficult to find any information on, and I was hoping someone here might be able to shed some light on it. This is a very exciting find for us, and any information you might be able to offer would be very much appreciated indeed!
I'll give a brief description of the sign below :
The sign is square (51x51cm), weighs approx 3.5 kgs and is made out of solid brass(!) (I haven't been able to find any information online about brass oil signs at all, hence me posting here)
It says "Depot for Castrol Motor Oils C.C. Wakefield & Co. Ltd.".
The "Castrol" is written in the classic 'bowtie' shape that collectors love.
If you could offer any information about this kind of sign, its history, or what it might be worth that would be amazing!
Thanks very much for your help!
That is incredible! Not just the sign but what you do. I would love to do that job.
