Hello Friends and Fellow Collectors. Today I thought I'd share something most people don't know or realize the difference in.
First I'll give some history about the "Space Explorer" wristwatches. The first variant were introduce in 1954, the dial depicted a rocket ship and the dial markers had N,E,S,W in the 12,3,6,9 position . The crystal had a working compass in center. The second issue had graphics of a rocket ship. This brings us to the third variant, circa 1967, which is first & second photos above. The second hand is a clear disk with Astronaut & Gemini style capsule, that rotated around the dial. Now for the oddity....In 1969 with all the Apollo Lunar flight, the packaging was change and retitled "Lunar Scout Wristwatch for Space Explorer"(photos 3 & 4). This packaging was used for 69 only, the graphics remained the same. Then for the 1970-80 the Space Explorer watch was changed slightly , same basic graphics, but instead of a clear disk second hand, a straight bar connecting the Astronaut and Ship was used.
    Thanks for looking,
    Kerry

As a kid that was growing up when the second watch was produced, I'm surprised I never saw it but a kid's vision is a bit limited when they're 8 or 9! Love the Space theme of these. I have a space toy collection but no watches in it yet. Interesting that they both say swiss made at the bottom of the dial, never seen that on a novelty or kids watch before. Very cool, Kerry!

Perry, I have several mother "Space" themed watches, a few were of Television series Heroes , Rocky Jones & Tom Corbett just to name a couple, I believe I have around 20-25 different space watches. most were USA on the early pieces, late 1950's into the 60's, the Swiss made watches started to appear more readily.
