I found this at a local consignment shop. I believe it's a genuine faience amulet of Sekhmet. The ankh is sterling and a name, Yaakov Kohn, is stamped on the back. Anyone know anything about this artist?

    Thank you for looking.

A very attractive piece, even though not by a professional or widely recognized silversmith; could be a hobby piece.

Thanks, davyd286. Why don't you think it's by a professional?

Thank you, Valentino. I don't know much about this piece other than it's an amulet of Sekhmet, the Egyptian lion goddess. The form is consistent with pieces from the end of the New Kingdom until the end of dynastic history. Also, Sekhmet is part of the divine family of the Memphite area and plaque-form amulets of her are often associated with the XXVI Dynasty. (Information from Amulets of Ancient Egypt by Carol Andrews.) I wish I knew more.

I was able to confer with two reputable dealers in antiquities over the last couple of days and they both conclude that the amulet is more than likely authentic and from the Late Kingdom, around 700-30 B.C. I am beyond thrilled and just purchased beautiful hand-dyed silk shibori ribbon on which to wear my pendant.

I thinks it's not made by a professional jewelry manufacturer because of how the setting is made and also because online search didn't yield any info to the contrary.

The amulet could very well be ancient, I did not argue otherwise.
