I occasionally wear this pocketwatch to work the guys like seeing it.
This is a Hampden RAILWAY Springfield.During the time this timepiece was made it was a high grade, railroad grade watch.
I like to collect the Springfield type not Canton Ohio version.
Still running strong,keeping good time.
FYI, this piece is beautiful watch and dated 1882 if you didn't know
Thanks for the info Kerry10456.

Just wondering what the Mystery is.... Heres the basics:
Railroad pocket watches were an important staple for most watch companies. Standards had to be met in order for a watch to be used by railroad personnel. It had to be open faced, keep accurate time and have clear Arabic numerals in black on a white face. In its previous incarnation as the New York Watch Company, Hampden had an 18 size, 15-jewel Railway pocket watch that was one its highest grades. It remained at the top of the Hampden line after the reorganization
Well as you mentioned this watch was made in 1882,the standards were simply in those day, however after Kipton incident a more universal standard was adopted.
Open face,17j or better, timing performance, with that being said some railroads allowed there employees to use there none regulation watch to work with.
Changing times.
Thanks for the love and looking Racer4-4
