Just a few weeks ago I was thinking about my Grandmothers old comfy rocker, wishing we would have kept it when she went into the nursing home over 20 years ago, so I could use it now. But at the time, it was recovered in a 1970's color and print, and in 1990 we didn't like the way it looked. I even called my cousin to see if he had it, thinking he may have taking it. Then just a week later I spent the day Antique shopping and going through 2nd hand furniture stores. I SAW IT!!! My Grandmothers Chair. How weird was that!? I had to buy it. I had no idea where I was going to put it, I just knew I had to have it. The man who owned the store told me it was a "Duncan Phyfe" style, dates about the 1930's. I didn't care - I just wanted it. But now I am trying to find out exactly how old it is and what is the brand. There are no markings or name anywhere on it. If anyone can identify it, or have seen one like it, I would appreciate it. It has the brass lion claw type front feet.
I wish I knew where Grandma's Rocker has been these past 20 years.
My grandmother had one just like it, and that was 1950 I do not know if that helps. And like you I wish I still had it.
Hi Mary Lyn, thanks your info. My thoughts are maybe my grandparents bought it soon after they were married, which was in 1926. But they lived in a rural West Michigan farming community, so I don't think they went far to get it.
