This is my French mystery. The bottle carries a signature which despite my best attempts & a trip to the opticians I am unable to read along with the number 60. It has a delightful chap wearing a sleep cap as the stopper however the cork is broken. The bottle has a lovely glaze and is a stoneware of some description. It measures a majestic 29cm & has a 24cm circumstance at the widest point.
So far my detective skills have proved fruitless. Does anyone know anything about my French mystery?
Can't decipher signature too...
But it does look like a Calvados (Normandy apple cordial) bottle, the stopper beeing a Normandy farmer's head.
Similarities with this one, also marked 60 (for capacity in cl?)
Wow!! Thank you for solving my mystery. I have learned something new today. A wealth of knowledge obviously around this fantastic site. I would be intrigued if anyone was able to decipher the signature.
A french saying " ça, c'est une autre paire de manche!"
aka it will not be as easy ;-)
