This funky menu takes me back to my youth growing up in Northern California in the early 1970s. The Trident restaurant in Sausalito (Marin County) was right on the bay and overlooked The City (SF). The waitresses were beautiful hippy girls who sometimes wore daises in their hair The waterfront saloon was woody and full of live plants (kinda new for the time) and the whole vibe was cool. Oh! And the food was delish! Lots of earthy choices and stuff that stands the test of time - like quiche, lattes, herb teas, avocado omelettes and vegeburgers. Certainly trendsetting fare for the day. The Trident was originally owned by the Kingston Trio. Local and international Rock starts frequented the place like Mick Jagger and Janis Joplin. Woody Allen filmed a movie there, Play it Again, Sam.
The psychedelic two-sided menu is the most VIBRANT & COLORFUL menu I have in my collection and full of all sorts of little phrases, symbols and art in the margins between the food offerings. Over the years I lost both of my original menus but fortunately my thoughtful husband was able to find one for me on eBay not too long ago. I now have it framed...in the kitchen no less! Here is a cool website about the history of the restaurant: http://www.thetridentrestaurant.com
Have you been there?
Really cool item !!!!!
Yes, went there back in the day...
Great graphics!
It looks like a poster of the era.
Do you know who did the menu-- did they do rock posters in the sf area as well?

I just bought a beat up old Trident menu at an Oakland Glea Market but there are a few listed on rBay every now and then. A friend in Minnesota buys them from a family in NorCal and resells them for a fortune but tbe very same ones are on eBay - listed about twice a month for more reasonable prices. There are many versions - you can tell by the varying prices. $2 for a glass of wine!
