I need help identifying this wood / cook stove that came in my rustic cabin. It works extremely well, and we love it. If possible, we'd appreciate knowing the maker and era/ year made. The only clue as to it's identity is 84 OBM-3710 ZC that is inscribed on the top edge of the door (3/8 inch width).

I have only been able to find one other similar image online, and credit goes to antsypantz_photo, and the image was shown in a section called Montgomery Ward Wood Cook Stove Photos.

Perhaps it is a MWs stove, but I haven't been able to find proof of that. Another thought was that this was a kit that the purchaser would put together, or perhaps it is just handmade and the builder was able to find a stove door that just happened to have a number on it.

Thanks in advance to this community for any and all info!

I agree that it is a Wards stove. Around mid 1980's and one of their "Earth Stoves" as they called them. They could be used as a free standing stove or a fireplace insert. They were air tight stoves and worked really well.

Thanks you fhrjr2! I'll start researching "earth stoves" now that I can put a name to the stove.

I guess my question on this being an "earth stove" is that the wood loads from the side and the main wood burning area is a cylinder. Not sure how it would have been used as an insert.

      Thanks again!

Very logical question. The stove does not actually go in the fireplace, it sits on the hearth. There would be a steel plate covering the firebox of the fireplace and only the stove pipe would actually extend through the steel plate so it can exhaust the smoke up the chimney. Ones I owned the steel insert plate was an option you paid extra for depending on the size of the firebox.
