I've had this doll for around 50 years. It was giving to me by a family member who received it from her father as a gift. The clothes on the doll are nicely fitted and very well made with attention to detail. The doll appears to be stuffed with saw dust or similar material. It is approximately 15 inches tall, arms, legs and head all move. There is a small hole in his mouth, I was told originally he had a cigarette. Most of the clothes appear to be made of wool, shoes look like leather his hair feels real. He has some holes near his joints other than that he is in nice condition. Tape was placed on the holes in his body by the previous owner, the tape has yellowed over the years, see pictures.
I've had this stored in a drawer for years, it was not displayed. It is time to display him so he can be enjoyed rather than being hidden in the drawer.
I would love to know more about the doll so hoping folks can share information on age and where it might have been made. The individual who gave me the doll said she knows her dad returned from over seas with the doll but couldn't remember from where, I am in the US.
Suggestions on how to preserve him are also welcomed. As I said I know nothing about dolls so need help from the experts to be sure this guy survives.
He is either a Lenci Doll or a look a like . There are several ways to help ID
Are his ears double felt , does he have a zig zag seam on back of neck ? How is hair attached ? Is bottom of sole of foot signed Lenci ? There are many very good Lenci dol look a likes and a lot of places to look on doll to help ID but first check bottom of foot and show me stitching if toes and fingers . He is wonderful either way . I will await more photos . You can add another post of him with close up of face I need to see painting better also on lips. eyebrows and more .

Your Lenci Smoking doll
Your doll is dressed similar to 300 series " Humphrey Bogart Doll " But he was not a smoker .
He is made of felt and moths love him . He should be stored in enclosed case out of sun .
He is Not The Humphrey Bogart doll as I can tell clothes are close but not quite .

He well maybe the so called Humphrey Bogart doll but clothes are a bit different so ? I am not 100 % sure they ever changed color of tie. pockets on shirt but will say he is a valuable doll since he is a smoker
Manikin, thank you so much for all of the great information. As you said he is dressed similar to the Humphrey Bogart doll. I added some additional pictures and more information about his condition on another post. Tried to get some close ups of his face but not as clear as I would like so hopefully they help. Returning him to the storage place he has been in for years, it was a safe place away from moths and out of the sun.
