Picked up this beauty at the flea market for $15 last weekend. Had been wanting an old pocketwatch to carry around and this one looked like the very one. It still worked and was in great condition, apart from a cracked crystal! Figured $15 was a steal.

My wife then did some quick Google searching and discovered some very similar looking Hamilton watches were going for upwards of $200 online. Then we noticed it had "Hamilton Railroad" engraved on the crown. We're not an experts on watches by an means, but we knew that railroad watches were of particularly good quality.

Once we got home , I figured out how to remove the back and located the serial number. That dated it to 1936. The back cover also shows etchings that indicate it was serviced by railroad repairmen. Seems it actually did service on the railroad at some point. Neat!!

I figure it's worth in the range of $200-$400. Probably closer to the lower end of that range with the crack in the crystal. Need to get the replaced at some point.

    Not bad for $15!! :D

Nice 992 Elinvar in a Railroad Model No. 8 Bar Over Crown Case.
The case is featured by a special pendent construction with connecting bar which makes it impossible for the bow or crown to come out. Has an H. G. Dial.
The 992-Elinvar was sold cased only.
In a 1932 advertisement this combination case with the 992-E sold for :
$65.00 in a 14K filled white gold case
$60.00 in a 10K filled natural yellow gold case.
      Nice find,
      Dave
