This was found yesterday in a washout behind my house on lake Jackson in manassas virginia. Did a quick research and based on what info I found this is a U.S. NAVY OFFICER button. If the head faces to the left it dates between 1852 To 1941. If the head faces to the right it's dated from 1941 on up. Any info is greatly appreciated.

Could anyone tell me if this is WWII or CIVIL WAR ERA and maybe what exact year it could be? I can't seem to find any writings on the back. I'm afraid to clean it up.

It's got a very wierd back for a button. Is that a cotter pin through the back?

Might be a safety pin I'm unsure due to its so rusted on.
