    Hi, I have been searching to no avail as to what the number is on the bottom of my blue Perfect Mason jar with zinc lid, it appears to be a backward 6 underscored, or backward 9 over scored but it has a much longer tail and doesn't look at all like the 6's or 9's I've seen. Could someone give me an idea as to what it is?

      The number is a mold number - the underscore is to differentiate between a nine and a six - yours is a six. Normally these appear from looking at the base, but yours is backwards and was probably eventually changed to the correct mold configuration. - The Ball logo was used between 1923 and 1933 as shown here on my logo link;

      And picture 3 of my link here is what a glass mold machine looked like, hence the different mold numbers on the jar bases

      hartballjr: Each manufacturer had their own system of mold marks to identify which mold the jar was made in. Some had no marks on the base.

      CrystalM, please post a photo of your jar and start a new thread with your question. I'm sure someone can give you an answer!
