If you had spent $1,000.00 in shares in Delta Airlines
one year ago, you would have $49.00 today!
If you had spent $1,000.00 in shares in AIG one year ago,
      you would have $33.00 today.
If you had spent $1,000.00 in shares in Lehman Brothers
one year ago, you would have $0.00 today.

But, if you had purchased $1,000.00 worth of beer one
year ago, drank all the beer, then turned in the aluminum cans for
the recycling refund, you would have received $214.00.

Based on the above, the best current investment plan is
to drink heavily and recycle. It is called the 401-Keg plan.
And, as a bonus... a recent study found that the average
American walks about 900 miles a year. Another study found that on
average Americans drink 22 gallons of alcohol per year. That means
that the average American gets about 41 miles to the gallon!

Makes you damned proud to be an American

      Trey,
Thx. All there but Amoco & Chevron. We do have 2 small Chevron CC signs but not a big matching oval. I don't think Chevron ever made a matching porcelain oval? Amoco did & we think we have one purchased that is a "paint over". We won't know till we strip it! Surprise sign!!!
    8. Trey Trey, 9 years ago
LOL sounds like a plan to me!!! It's Science!!!
    9. Trey Trey, 9 years ago
I love getting the painted over ones it's very exciting!!!! I've found airplane stripper the best tool when removing old paint on porcelain signs:)
    10. Rattletrap Rattletrap, 9 years ago
      Roycroftbooksfromme1,
That is a very interesting analogy and appears to fit too much of America. I have been putting my 401K in to signs & pumps since losing so much of it with the depression of 2008. Everybody can easily see what's left of my retirement as it is out in plain sight!
    11. Trey Trey, 9 years ago
      Looks like money well spent:)
    12. Rattletrap Rattletrap, 9 years ago
      Trey,
I'll try that on this sign as I have tried other strippers and spent days and days and gallons of stripper and lots of time & sweat getting the paint off. Hard work!! Maybe your suggestion will spare me a little? Thx
    13. Rattletrap Rattletrap, 9 years ago
      Who sells airplane stripper?
    14. Trey Trey, 9 years ago
Home Depot and read the label wear long pants and rubber gloves it doesn't react well with bare skin LOL
    15. Rattletrap Rattletrap, 9 years ago
      Trey thx.
Yes on the gloves! It's a great investment, however I'm still working so not needing to "cash it in". Think I'll die before I'd sell any of these precious signs!!! I don't own any of them. They own me!!! Am looking for a 6' red Flying A and have a 6' 20s Shell that I could trade?
    16. Rattletrap Rattletrap, 9 years ago
Trey, u mean money well invested don't u? Money well spent is when your wife buys new shoes on sale and shows u how much she saved u.
    17. Rattletrap Rattletrap, 9 years ago
      Trey,
Can I say that on CW?
    18. Rattletrap Rattletrap, 9 years ago
      Roycroftbooksfromme1,
Yes we need a tall guy to wash the signs, but all the tall guys we find are making zillions playing pro basketball or tight ends in the NFL. How are u on tall Stilts?
    19. Rattletrap Rattletrap, 9 years ago
      Trey,
I find that paint remover works about the same on bare skin as it does on paint. It softens it, bubbles it, and finally lifts it right off your arms & hands. Ouch!

      Roycroftbooks,
U are a very creative guy & I like your ideas. Unfortunately plenty of other people have ideas to bilk the govt out of $$ and I'm one of the taxpayers who helps pay for all of this nonsense, so I resist getting too creative or dealing with the govt when I don't have to. Like the original framers of the Constitution, I see the Govt as our biggest danger in too many ways!
    23. Rattletrap Rattletrap, 9 years ago
      Roycroft,
Hmmmm? I was a Billboard sign painter back in the 80s-90s when they were all hand painted. We got up on 70' tall signs in those days. I was younger & dumber as well as more stable. I still think a guy on tall stilts would look great washing the signs. Maybe extended sheet rockers stilts taking you up to the 18' height of the signs?
    24. Rattletrap Rattletrap, 9 years ago
      Roycroftbooks,
U supply your own stilts & we pay under min wage with no benefits & it's part time. We do let u store your signs with us Free of charge as a bonus. :)
    25. Roycroftbooksfromme1, 9 years ago
amen come on trump ....smiling but if u shrink the government by 2/3 s the people in this country will have no ... job ...they voted them in so ..as ye sow, so shall ye reap ....wont bother me up here in the mtns...smiling
    26. Rattletrap Rattletrap, 9 years ago
Exactly! We suddenly will have a bunch of "govt freeloaders" out looking for jobs! Maybe they can become Farm workers as I hear that 10% of farm produce goes unharvested due to lack of workers. Hmmmm ? That's the problem!!! Workers actually work as compared to many govt employees who have jobs but avoid the "w" word.
    27. Rattletrap Rattletrap, 9 years ago
      Trey,
If u look carefully u will see a very nice 3' Chevron CC sign on the pole with the Standard sign on it. We have two more this size that we recently got from a collector friend that are nos and beautiful. Just have to get them hung.

      Gary,
U sound like a guy who cuts his own wood rather than going to the govt for Fed subsidized fuel oil for your furnace. My kind of friend! I'm 75 and still working & see no reason to quit while I can still eat & talk. Nothing is for nothing & we sell our souls to the govt store if we believe in freebies. Our Nations best example of Govt care is what we have done with Native Americans who gave us their land in exchange for us "taking care" of them on reservations. (Govt Housing)
    30. Trey Trey, 9 years ago
      Yes well invested!!! LOL
    31. Rattletrap Rattletrap, 9 years ago
      Trey,
The "Investment" is great if we look at values today & compare to what we paid. Unfortunately we would have to sell to realize the investment gains. That's too painful to even consider.
