No railroad company markings on lantern. Armspear Mfg of New York on top. Soot inside suggests was possibly lit with kerosene. Has two thick blue and two red heavy glass lenses. So I assume that the yellow flame shining through the blue lens make it appear green. One odd thing is that (as you can probably see in the photos) a carrying handle - but also four holes in the base to bolt it down. It was found underneath the L&N Depot when it was torn down in the early 1960's.
I contacted the RR Museum in Calera, AL and several sites that buy and sell RR lanterns - and also bought a two book set called Lamps That Lit Our Way - but the museum personnel were able to tell me anything concrete. One suggested it may have been a RR bridge lantern. There were no photos in the books I mentioned. Can you tell me anything about my lantern and it's history. I am not interested in selling it.
It appears to be made of cast aluminum.
