hi can someone be so kind and tell me what this is? I just bought it at a garage sale. The owner didn't know anything about it. She said she bought it at an antique store but she didn't know what it was?? Thanks!!

Yep. It's for candy or gum balls.
It is modern made as tubeamp stated.
Many antique malls now sell modern items-- often you will find bogus descriptions and prices that lead folks to believe they are getting a bargain priced antique.
