I always wanted a real 57 Chevy like this, but was never quite willing to spend the bucks to buy one. When my son found this display model we just had to buy it even tho we're not quite sure where or how to display it at aaaLakeside Storage. I'm pretty sure it won't go on our living room wall as my wife is waaaay to feisty for that idea. It's a great display item for the right spot! Both of our gas stations are already covered with signs as are most of the buildings. Maybe the front of the Office?
I like the Front Office location idea, would say a lot about what you do....to new comers
Kerry,
Thx for the suggestion. I agree.
This is so cool:) who makes this?
I have no idea who makes these. This one came from a private residence who had a very cool British Telephone Booth for sale that we saw on Craigslist. I saw the ad & my son saw the Chevy when he went to pick up the Phone Booth. The people were having some $$$ issues and needed cash so he bought it & I was out of town for the whole deal! I still haven't figured out what to do with either of the items yet, but they are both extremely cool & I had to have them. OCD you might say.
I've got a place to display both & doubt I have to explain where.
Blunderbuss,
Of course u do but it's off in a distant Island in the Carribean where few would have any idea how cool this stuff really is & u would be the only admirer. Find me a 6' red Flying A sign & I may do a trade with you. :)
Very cool, next to get some O.E wheels and make them into side tables to go with the display.
MeliG,
Thanks for another great & creative idea. I love creativity with this cool stuff
Put the wide white walls on it then lay a round piece of glass. The air in the tire on the wheel would be enough so the glass rests on the tire only and will not touch the face of the wheel. :)
It already has the wheels for it, but they are not mounted in the pix. I'm not sure I can picture what you're describing to me. Remember that I'm old and sloooooowww.
MeliG,
Ok I get it. I think. I just put the wheels on the ground and put round glass tops on them for small tables? Great idea if it were inside somewhere & there was space for the tables. Unfortunately I'm "space short" and can't even decide what space to put the Chevy in. My daughter saw the post and wants it on the wall in her sins (our youngest grandsons) bedroom. That's might be hard to resist as he has strings on my heart!
MeliG,
Ha ha, typo! He's too young for Sins so it's still son's
So cool I think it would go great in my living room... So what if the wife goes on about it ..lol who's she but my slave .......nice find ....
Yes you got it Rattletrap :) LOl... sins too funny.
A 6' Flying A sign here! LOL! The 1st car on the Rock was about 1940! No telling when the 1st gas station? Hurricanes take everything away every so many yrs. & if there is a Flying A sign here, it was blown in from somewhere else! LOL!!
Exactly! We have the same problem in Kauai plus we have lots of rain and subsequent rust. I haven't found one porcelain sign on the island in 40 yrs of hunting. I did find a very cool 1920s visible gas pump in beautiful condition but it came from a mainland collector & was shipped here years ago & never displayed or restored until I got it. I hunt on Craigslist in the Mainland when I'm in Hawaii & find cool stuff while sitting on the beach.
I put out the search requests for a Flying A sign and no luck. Found some 250 yr. old gold coins, but told them I was only interested in the sign & to only contact me if they found a sign. I was kind of interested in some of the 80 yr. old Heineken signs but my search is focused!
Wow! Cool to find ancient gold coins, but then again, u live wher all those famous pirates hung out and buried their treasures & neither hurricanes nor rust got to them. Lucky u!!! I won a bid on a nice Flying A sign in Vt last year & bought it but the seller decided he could welch on the deal & re list it for more $$ and both Oay Pal & Ebay let him do it!!! I whined & threatened & did everything I could but no success & soon saw the new listing & subsequent sale of the sign I bought for $1500. I'm still livid about Ebays dishonest practices!
Rattle, it works both ways with ebay. Sounds like you may have had a reasonable "B". I had an item that I "won" on ebay that was listed as from the German/French frontier & when I was contacted by the seller, he claims Berlin & wants to be paid by banque transfer to Poland, claiming that PayPal didn't work in Poland. After checking & finding out that was a lie, I contacted ebay & explained the demands & they backed me in backing out of the commitment. I have conformation via tracking, of an item right now being delivered to my shipping agent in MIA on the 3rd of Aug. & nothing since! Maybe an empty package? "Buyer, beware". I'm scared of ebay & everything at this point!
I think that if u use Pay Pal u have a money back guarantee? Unfortunately EBay has their Customer Service center in Manila & you only speak to underlings even if you go 3 tiers up & get their legal dept. They all refuse to honor their written agreement with buyer & Seller & allow illegal actions on the part of Ebay users & refuse to do anything but send very juvenile & poorly written emails to the offending party but authorize Pay Pal to refund your payment & allow the offending seller to re list the item and sell it to another at a higher price. They are not the good guys!
Blunderbuss,
I'm sure there are thousands like us that have seen the terrible service of Ebay & hopefully we will soon see the stuff we like on Amazon or some other broker/vendor. Till then we just warn others to be wary.
Ah, so the ebay guarantee is not an answer, but part of the problem? Manila? The centre of corruption? I will never buy anything on ebay again!
Thanks for the warning. And I thought it was only the posters who were thieves! Am I the only honest person left on the planet?
Hopefully not! Unfortunately a recent Harvard study of Corporate employees in the USA showed that 3 of 10 are totally honest no matter what, 4 of 10 are honest unless they feel justified & then they will steal from you. They may just really need the money or item desperately or they may feel that you wronged them or some other provocation. Then the remaining 3 are just plain dishonest & will wait for their chance & get you when it's convenient. Not very good news from Harvard & my experience in buz confirms their findings. I can't know where Ebay is on the scale, but I do know they are NOT the top 3 that are honest no matter what.
What's impt is what we do & what we chose in spite of those who "despite fully use us" or abuse us. We are what we think & what we do & why we do it determines our future self.
