I was given this in 1979 by my then boyfriends grandmother, It was given to her by a Gentleman when she was about 18 He then took his own life ,when she went on to marry someone else because of family pressure. she never wore the bracelet, but kept it in its box. Although it is very pretty I have not ever wanted to wear it. The paper where photo's go is original and both of the photo retaining rings(heart shaped) are still there. I cannot see any hall marks but there is a stamp on the back of one of the links which reads Sturdy Gold Filled with a little Oak tree. The box that it came in (which fell apart years ago) was a dark colour with an oak tree on it. I don't remember much about the history of the family apart from they were of Jewish decent..
I believe it Black Hills Gold and they used a Grape leaf stamp :-) What a story it carries and beautiful piece with a sad story
Thank you Manikin, yes it is a sad story. unfortunately I really only knew the Grandmother in her later years when she was very poorly, so never liked to ask too many questions not wanting to upset her.
"Sturdy" is the name of the manufacturer. They made alot of 1940s costume/gold filled jewelry.

Google for "sweetheart expandable bracelet", it was a popular gift for the one you loved :-)
Thankyou kyratango and Efesgirl loving all this information
Talk about constancies, I have/had one of these that I just removed the expansion band from to put on a 10k rolled plate Roy Rogers wristwatch yesterday, wish I would have seen this before then and would have posted the twin for your comparison.
kerry10456, weird isnt it!
"Spooky"..... miles apart, yet on same wave length, must been the day for these to come forth out of the "hidden treasure" spots :-)
