    This was my husbands in a box of bits and pieces that my husbands mother gave us it was either her fathers or grandfathers cant quite remember which one it does have some markings inside the back

      Hi Pipistrelle! It is from a WW1 trench watch, the cover is a shrapnel guard.

      kyratango has hit the nail on the head...The grating is a crystal protector from the early 19-teens, the other is the watch casing itself. both pieces are excellent examples of pre-war and war time early wristwatches. I'm particular interested in what the engraving on bottom side of the casing is. the lighting has restricted my ability to see clearly...might be that I'm older and half blind now, but.... The "Crowned Shield with Wings" with whatever is written has my curiosity flowing.... could you/would you add another photo, clearly showing depiction and lettering. It will surely have a significate meaning and history as to what it is. Thank you
