I have a beautiful what appears to be Japanese statue. It is exceptionally heavy.

    Weight: 10 lbs.
    Height: 12" high
    Width: 7.5 " wide
    Depth: 7.0

This beautiful heavy statue was given to me by my mother over 10 years ago. Her neighbor who passed away was a maid for the Dupont family and they gave her some art pieces plus this piece. She gave this piece to my mother.

I went to three different antique shops in my town and the
1st place said she didn't really know what material it was made from that it might be Alabaster because it was so heavy.

The 2nd place said she thought it may be ivory. but she wasn't sure.

The 3rd place said they thought it might be made out of Jade.

Does anyone know and can anyone please refer me to a reputable antique dealership here in the Newnan, ATL GA area. please.

I love this piece... All I want to know is what material it's made of and if anyone has one like it; that can tell me any history about it.....

Not sure which post you're going to keep, so:

While somewhat beautiful and seemingly made from exotic looking materials, at the end of the day most of these turn out to be made of plastic (resin).

Not sure what plastic resin is... but, I can assure you it is soo heavy.... I keep her on my coffee table and find her to be a tranquil piece in my home..... Thank you for both your input..... at least I know what she's made of... :-)

Just call it plastic, easier that way.

i have one almost the same but mine is missing the base. its definitely not plastic or resin. yes it is very heavy. feels like so sort of stone. i bought mine off a lady that bought it over 40 years ago for well over $100 back then. looking into it more as it is more than 40 years old

This substance, the "alabaster" of the Ancient Egyptians and Bible, often is termed Oriental alabaster, since the early examples came from the Far East

I don't believe this statue to be Japanese. The face features don't match the traditional Japanese style. The eyes are too big. The hair also doesn't follow the conventional geisha hairdo, that leaves the back of the neck showing. No ponytails in geishas as far as I know. Depending on its age it could be made of bakelite or celluloid, but if it has less than 50 or 60 years I would say it's resin. It's a nice piece anyway.
