I found this micro mosaic cross(second pic) this weekend at a yard sale. Although I m more in love with older jewelry, I always take this type of jewelry with me if I find it for cheap.
Agram M has a stunning collection really old micro mosaics, and she can tell you all about them.
I arranged my tiny collection just for fun from old till recent.
You can clearly see the tesserae grow bigger and bigger the more recent the jewelry gets.
I think my collection dates from 1880 till now. The oldest cross dates from around 1900, the more recent found cross dates from the thirties. , the banjo or mandoline is from the fourties, the celluloid handmade piece from the fifties, the round one with black tesserae could be from last year. ;-)
Hope you enjoy them!
Oops I just noticed I forgot one or two in my jewelry cabinet! Never mind
Nutsabotas, why feel sorry? i like them, wouldn t have bought them otherwise, and thats the most important thing
Love this you should look at my wife old gold on my name!!!!
You are so sweet, Ken. Sometimes it does take time for people to catch up to the threads, and then there's the time difference, and sometimes things get pushed off the main page before anyone gets a chance to see them. I know I try to go through at least three or four or five pages back whenever I visit to see if I missed anything. In this case, these micromosaics should be bounced up to the top so the experts here can take a look. :)
Val, I absolutely love your wide range of quirky items!
Most people here buy high end jewelry, I usually buy the lower end items....but we have three children, we just made a nice trip with them...everybody makes his own choices...jewelry for me is fun if I can buy it for 1 or 2€. If people dont like my jewelry, thats too bad
Nutsabotas, thanks for your love anyway and for explaining, because
Totally misunderstood your first comment!
And thanks katherine, filmnet, ttorntucker,racer4four,ho2, vetraio and zowie for loving my collection
You now have built up a nice collection of very nice mosaic jewelry. There are some very and also old nice jewelry at and it's certainly fun to find interesting pieces that are payable. In a family with growing children the budget is definitely needed to live well in this expensive time. We are fortunate that our son is mature and itself has a good salary so that I can spend more of my passion. All in all it is about the fun that you collect. Obviously there are many more important things in life than these material things. But it is still a nice hobby and these ornaments are surely one of them! Marga
Agram, thanks for your comment and the love. Indeed its all about the fun to collect. Thats why I keep buying stuff :-)
I thought its realy interesting to see them together, you really see the tesserae grow bigger and the details dissapear the more recent they get
Val, it never ceases to amaze me how Interwebz forums develop their own little unspoken rules and secret handshakes, lol. I haven't been on this site very long but long enough so I could see some of the dynamics you speak of, and others, that seem to me at least rather petty, but I figure it's not my business what trifling people do, it's only my business what I do, and what I do is enjoy life and enjoy the company of the nice people here and their wonderful threads and amazing items and all the knowledge and wisdom they share. I'm blessed to have the friends here that I do, and glad they love my threads and chat with me. Not gonna shed tears on the ones who don't wanna, life is too short to stuff a mushroom, lol. :)
