This charming image of a young girl is dated Nov 10, 1856 on the back. The photo is on a thick paper material and the ink is certainly very old. The writing is cut off, so at one point the photo was larger than it is now. However, is this just an old copy of an 1856 photo?
Some additional photos would be helpful. A photo of the entire image both front and back would be a good start point.
Albumen prints (and salt prints) were being made in 1856, but most encountered today post- date 1860.
With that being said, the soft focus and description of thick paper would make me suspect it is a later copy image from a daguerreotype/ ambrotype/ tintype.

Thanks Scott, I added a photo of the entire back. I updated the photo of the front to a less cropped version (you may need to open the image in a new window to see the edges on both). It is not a very big image, no larger than a CDV.
PostCardCollector, I agree with you. I can't help but to imagine what life was like for her as a young girl in the 1850s.
Back would also lead me to believe it is an early 20th century copy photo.
First line in inscription is ".... old", which seems to confirm that the image is copied from an "older" photo.

Thanks Scott, as someone commented previously (not sure where the comment went) the inscription originally gave the age of the girl. It reads "...ars old". Its unfortunate that someone apparently pulled the tape of that corner and took the number with it.
