The Alcatraz Penitentiary is located on Alcatraz Island, on 22 acres, in the San Francisco Bay, 1.5 miles north, off the shore of San Francisco.
Officially titled "U.S. Penitentiary, Alcatraz", the institution opened on July 1, 1934 and closed on March 21, 1963.

There are 336 "main line" cells and 42 "solitary confinement" cells in the cellhouse. The prison was never filled, though, and the average population was about 260 men. The highest occupancy was 302 convicts.

Alcatraz had no facilities for capital punishment, and no one was ever sent to the island with a death sentence. Alcatraz inmates who committed capital offenses while on the island were tried in federal court, sentenced to death, and transferred to San Quentin State Penitentiary for execution in the gas chamber.

Since Alcatraz never executed anyone, the maker of this pocket watch fob evidently did not do his homework. A unique watch fob anyway.

    Thanks for looking,
    Dave

You answered my question about executions there. Actually, federal executions are very rare. Did the feds ever use the chair for executions?

BB2, with limited research, the Federal Government uses lethal injection for execution. I'm not sure if they ever used it.
As of 2014, the only places in the world which still reserve the electric chair as an option for execution are the U.S. states of Alabama, Florida, South Carolina, Kentucky, and Virginia. (Arkansas and Oklahoma laws provide for its use should lethal injection ever be held to be unconstitutional.)
