I bought this at an estate sale. It's made in Japan. Beautiful 3 footed censor/incense burner. Has the family crest of the Shimazu family, a powerful warrior clan that controlled Satsuma province from the 12th to the 19th century. This piece has painted gold foo dog handles. The primary color of this censor is a cobalt blue with painted gold detailing around the rim and handles, also on the lid. There is hand painted human warrior characters around the center of this piece. I have no idea who made this specific censor. It is signed on the bottom with Made in Japan and also has 2 other signatures on it one in red and one in silver. The censor measures 9 1/2 inches tall with the lid on and 9 1/4 inches wide from foo dog handle to foo dog handle. The lid measures 3 1/2 inches tall by 4 inches in length. I think it is a beautiful piece to display in my china cabinet!! If anyone knows who these signatures are please let me know. Thanks for looking at my show and tell!!
Does anyone know this maker??
