This painting came out of an old physicans house that was purchased as an estate. His wife was a collector of fine art, mainly modern. This piece is one of over 60 works I aquired as a lot. These works of art have been sitting in a dark, dusty back storage room forgotten for 6 years till I found them. Enjoy! Any additional information on this work is greatly appreciated! Thanks.

    Carolyn Talbot Hoagland (1921 – 2013)

Carolyn’s paintings were accepted for many juried shows in Michigan and nationally. She especially enjoyed life drawing and portrait work and was known for her realistic watercolors depicting shoreline scenes of Sanibel Island’s shell-strewn beaches.

Carolyn Lee Talbot was born in Dayton, Ohio and moved to East Lansing with her husband, John H. Hoagland, in 1952. She started coming to northern Michigan in the mid-1930s and was a summer resident of Glen Arbor for 30 years until her death last September.

In addition to her career as a visual artist, Carolyn supported the arts in many ways. She served as president of the Metropolitan Lansing Fine Art Center, and was affiliated with the Glen Arbor Art Association and the BIG Arts of Sanibel, Florida where she maintained a winter studio. In 1975 Governor William Milliken appointed Carolyn to the Michigan Council for the Arts, where she served until 1983. She was also elected to the boards of the Michigan Arts Foundation and Arts Midwest. In the 1960s she initiated creative arts classes for Lansing school children. The drawing studio in the new visual arts building at Interlochen Center for the Arts bears her name in recognition of her ongoing support.
