i got this on ebay the other day. it's pretty unusual for an Awaji piece - kind of a cross between Awaji and majolica. i imagine it was used to root cuttings in water, maybe?

I love your fascination with Awaji ... you find some wonderful pieces !!!!
I'd not heard of Awaji, one to look out for, this is beautiful!
thank you very much vetraio50. I'm glad you found Awaji too, Vintagefran!
This looks so different from your other Awaji, with the tooling and flowers.
Fantastic pot!
How do you identify it Ho2? Is it all marked?
thanks racer4four. while a lot of awaji is signed, some isn't. some Awaji, like this pot, are impossible to miss. it has to do w/ the glaze- color, transparency, designs [irises on this green background are v. common], but i'm not quite sure how to describe it. some of the best Awaji is difficult though - esp. if they're unsigned. those are the big, textural pieces w/ lava glazes. they are also period also [pre-1935] but look more like much later German pottery.
Thanks
