My neighbor brought me this patch to identify, I am clueless, but I know this is the site to find the answer. This measures 4 3/4" x 3 1/4" wide. This is made with metallic silver and gold thread. What do you think?

UK, Coldstream Guards, Colour Sergeant's badge.

Sadly it appears someone has removed the crown from the badge, thus completely vandalising a badge which is relatively rare. The rank of colour-sergeant was first used in 1813. The sphinx is a Coldstream Guards battle honour, Egypt 1801.

Not first issue, as the flagstaff, in 1813, was on the left-hand side of the badge. I am not sure when the badge was changed.
