Found this metal detecting at a friends house who dated back to 1830 . There is a marking on the back . Looking to find an age frame of the item !

It is plain brass on the front about 2inches by 2 inches . It has one slot side that is missing . The marking looks like a diamond with a pair of closed forceps from a blacksmith or farrier type tool behind it !

Thanks in advance with any help !

Your wonderful buckle slightly resembles Civil War bed roll buckles that I have recently seen in museums in the Fredericksburg, VA area. I will try to help you research it, as it is very interesting.

Thank you ! I have had no luck with the marking so far myself , but I did tell the home owner to put it away until we find out what it is !
