Another rare and beautiful piece from Andy's collection:
"Unique" is an overused and worn-out term with practically no meaning today. However, this one might really be unique in the original sense of the word. The text under the line drawing says that the model was possibly commissioned by Bakalowits and that there are several executions of it. One variety is "pensee verlaufend", in Loetz terms spreading from clear to rich violet on a "Silberfuss" (=Silberiris foot), while the bowl is "geschrenkt". This is an effect different from crackle, as the glass substance is not cracked, but corrugated. The notes say that one piece was sold to Ludwig Fraenkel in Berlin in 1911 and indeed, I bought this bowl in Germany. See also Ausfuehrung 116 from the same year, which used the same decor. But this is not Ausfuehrung 116, as the determining element of it is the form, not the color.
stunning!!!
I agree Sean, very nice decor.
