I came across this Jug at a Boot fair in Bedfordshire 10 years ago. It has been used alternatively as a pot for my paintbrushes and a vase for dried flowers! The handle is comprised of a Monk or Priest like figure; with a smaller version on the opposite side. There are also matching Oriental faces of a man and woman on the other two sides. It appears to be painted or glazed with an opaque matter, and where the glaze has chipped off, you can see small uneven sized holes in the main body consistent with ancient bone. It is signed 'Augusto' inside the rim. I have sent pictures of it to The Natural History Museum and also The Royal Albert Museum; but both professed to have never seen anything like it! It stands 23cm high with a circumference of 39cm. There is something immensley appealing about it's crudeness and lack of charm!
