I found this lovely Northwood Amethyst Stippled Carnival Glass Grape & Cable Biscuit/Cookie/Cracker Jar at my late aunt and uncle's home. But, I don't know much about it except from what I've learned about the pattern and color etc....from a few sites.
I don't know a great deal about glass....I know Van Briggle Pottery !
It has a thumbprint bottom edge and is a brilliant electric/iridized amethyst with a marigold glow irridescence.
N is embossed inside the bottom of the jar.
Measures approx. 7 1/8" tall and 5 3/4" wide.
I've Googled several sites but I can't find a jar of this size. I've found powder jars; spooners etc..... Just wondering, if anyone has any info. about this item.
Was this an earlier piece; is it rare ????
Thank you, in advance. for any kind assistance !
Northwood did make a 'cracker' jar in their 'Grape & Cable' pattern c1900. But this is a humidor and the underside of the lid should show 3 prongs for holding a sponge in place; not really rare but possibly harder to find than the cracker jars.
You're absolutely correct about those prongs ! Very much appreciate your kind assistance !
you're very welcome : ) nice find with the prongs intact as they are prone to getting broken off.
Anyone know what color this would be called ? I showed it to someone , yesterday, and she said she thought it was Renninger Blue not stippled Amethyst....I've never heard of Renninger Blue, but, the inside is a lovely deep blue color. Thank you.
doesn't look like Renninger blue to me but I'm not good with carnival glass colors. Here are a couple of fairly reliable links with examples:
