This is a late 19th century Whitefriars claret jug. Made in the Venetian style, it has a wrythen donut shaped body with rigaree trails around the edge and a poppy head stopper.
This must be a just for looks claret jug as it is so impractical, it has physical presence but no carrying capacity.
Not in any of my books but identified as Whitefriars by Christies in one of their catalogs in the 1990s.
Love the twisted neck that flows into the stopper's design.
The balance in the rigaree !!!
Hispano-Moresque look to it too !!!!
What a BEAUTY !!!!
stunning!!!
