In an attempt to research this item I described it in the following ways:
* antique 19th century wooden children's daybed on casters for convalescing
* victorian childs wooden sliding panel Bedbox on casters
* Victorian era childs wooden convalescing box/daybed on casters antique
* Antique wooden seat box on castors with folding hinged top panel which becomes a chair
It is a box with 2 folding panels joined by hinges, which fold and sit on top of the box when not in use and slide into place when opened, it only opens into this configuration, it is thought to be a daybed for a child in a hospital or convalescing home. It is not suitable for an adult, but is the size of a standard trunk. It appears possible to transfer a child while on the panels. It is possible to adjust the angle of the feet or head by sliding the panels as required.
It can be used as a storage box when closed but it is not airtight. It must be emptied to use as the day bed.
CAN ANYONE CONFIRM WHAT THIS ITEM REALLY IS?
It is not a classic bed box but I couldn't find any other 'bed' description
very interesting post
