A local barber is in the process of retrofitting his shop to have a old time look and feel. He acquired this Koken Neon Barber Pole and looking to find out everything he can about this pole. Thank you in advance from anyone who can give some history, etc. etc.
In the UK the Red/white barbour ple indicated that the barbour of olden times would practise some simple medical procedures on you. Because there was no National Health Service. Such as removing teeth and or applying leeches and using a metal sharp toothed device called a scarifier to bleed you.
This bleeding was believed to remove the bad spirits within a human. There is a famous barbour who went further than most. His name was Sweeny Todd and he would offer to shave you but would cut your throat and turn you into a pie! It was a movie, a book and a play.
So an early medical not qualified person offering medical procedures, hence the red for blood and the white for banadages.
